Reticulated Python

Reticulated pythons are found in Southeast Asia, Philippines, Thailand, and Australia. Their size can reach up to twenty feet long, and live close to thirty years old.

CARE:

The minimum size of the tank should be the length of their body; they need the space to stretch out. Bigger the tank, the better.

There is no special lighting required, however they need a heat source. Whether this comes from heat mats, lighting, or ceramic bulbs it needs to cover the entire enclosure.

Basking temperatures need to be within 90-92 degrees F.

The overall temperature can range from 78-80 degrees F. Humidity needs to be in between 50-70%.

The bedding recommended is: Zoo Med Eco Earth Zoo Med ReptiSoil Exo Terra Plantation Soil Zilla Jungle Mix

Feeding a reticulated python should be every 7-10 days with the meal being slightly smaller than the largest part of the python. Once adult size has been reached, feed every 2-3 weeks.

A water bowl is placed in the enclosure for soaking and drinking. Clean the bowl regularly to prevent bacteria growth.

HANDLING:

The key to handling a reticulated python is consistency. Having a routine, like knocking on the door or using a snake hook regularly will help the reticulated python understand the handler is not food.

As a reticulated python grows, it is important to have a second or third person present in case of accidents.
